15 questions we have about a 'Justice League' movie

How will Warner Bros. handle Superman, Batman and the other heroes?

Will it be the traditional Justice League team or the New 52 team?

Will it be the traditional Justice League team or the New 52 team?

In order to make the Marvel Universe work on the big screen, the studio made the decision to deviate from comic book mythology regarding the origin of a number of heroes and the formation of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. The traditional Justice League team featured Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash (Barry Allen), Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) and the Martian Manhunter. DC recently rebooted its entire continuity and changed the original team to include Cyborg instead of the Manhunter. That would leave the team with only one lady (an obvious problem for the big screen Avengers) and just one minority character (also a problem for "The Avengers"), unless the John Stewart Green Lantern is included instead of Jordan. Considering the success of the new "Justice League" comic book series, it's hard not to see the current lineup in a "League" movie. Whether they will add any other characters to that mix will be a big question mark.

    Genius

Kudos on being honest about the deplorable writing on the New 52 Justice League. Jim Lee's awesome artwork is the only good thing about that trainwreck.

Let's see what Man of Steel looks like first bcuz it's a good possibility Snyder is the man to helm the JL movie. You know it will kick ass visually (and there will be lots of slow notion action). If its going to be a hit, fast track the JL movie with Liev Schreiber as Batman. Spin off lesser characters like Flash, etc afterward.

Common is one of the greatest MC's of all time but he's a terrible, TERRIBLE actor. Keep him as far away from John Stewart as possible please.

Don't use Darkseid; use Braniac so we can see hundreds of robots torn to shreds.

Remember you'll still never be on Marvel's level. Accept it.

Zoe They need to post pone making a JL movie until they can introduce all the characters first, in separate movies. If they try and introduce these characters all together, the movie will crash and burn.

Tho I like John Stewart better than Hal, it would be stupid to change it now. It would make the green lantern movie totally pointless, since it sucked anyway.

Aww, I hope they keep manhunter, he's awesome, and so under appreciated.

Why would they put in green arrow? Yes he's a JL member, but not an original member. You also don't want to seem like ur copying everything from the avengers

    • Prettok, yes I think he would. He played a very very minor role in Wolverine and he's played in very small films like Paperheart as well. Reynold's may seem cocky, but he doesn't have that ego. I think he wants another shot at Green Lantern and this is the only way he'd get it.

Missed the most important question, who should play Wonder Woman. If you screw up Wonder Woman the entire thing falls apart. She has always been the mediator between Batman and Superman, without her the team doesn't work.

Prettok Batman and Superman got along fine in 70 years of Worlds Finest comics without Wonder Womans help. If anything, her presence creates the tension of alpha male sexual competition between the two guys. They both want to show off in front of the lovely goddess.

Forget about a live action JL movie, have you been checking out the animated 'Young Justice'? Other than a few bumps in the road, the first season was great, filled with intrigue to the brim and the second season is picking up right where the first left off (although it is FIVE YEARS after the first season).

DC's problem is duplicating their success with animation features with live action movies. Marvel has done it well (Iron Man 1&2, X-Men Quad, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Thor, Captain American, Spider Man trilogy, Blade trilogy,) and DC just needs to focus not on trying to catch them with the number of movies but the quality of the movies. Just look at the reboot of Batman. In my opinion, The Dark Knight should have been the first movie adapted from a major comic book company to win the Best Picture Academy Award, not to mention that Heath Ledger put that movie over the top.

    • I agree. George Miller's mocap was the smartest possible direction. Especially given the fact that they already have GL, Batman, and Supes (forthcoming) being represented in their own standalone worlds.

DC wasn't smart enough to play Marvel's game and they'd be idiots to think they can just jump in at the conclusion.

    • Bale is done with Batman, he said so himself. It'd be a mistake because it would invalidate everything Nolan has built.

MoCap is the way to go imo. They can't make this work with the 3 biggest JLA members already having independent franchises where the others dont exist.

there's absolutely 10000000% no chance at all for JL to be a succesful movie. the avengers beat the pace, beat the story, beat the style, and the audiences will forever remember that superheroes movies means the avengers. it's a sad fact but DC's only option is batman franchise. other than that are totally crap (yeah supes, i'm talking about your late movie)

If it were set on Earth, an underwater enemy would be great with Aquaman, IF they could do it right. It would at least be something different than The Avengers aliens theme and the endless string of "how can we destroy a city this time" themes. Come on DC! Think out of the box and give us something different and original! The JLA would not be the same without Aquaman regardless of how you feel about him. He IS part of the team.

    1) I'd rather see Martian Manhunter than Cyborg.
    2) Nolan's world just won't work, but damn if a bayman beyond movie wouldn't be awesome.
    3) We're running into the same problem unless DC/WB clears Snyder to do a lead in.
4)With characters as God like as MMH and Sups, they'd almost have to. DC characters are simply too powerful to have realistic threats.
5)I think Reynolds probably wants a shot at his GL space opera and this is the only way he'll get it. He's cheap and still a good draw.
6)DC/WB moves too slowly to put out anything of quality so I hope not.
    7)No, absolutely not.
    8)I certainly hope so.
    9) George Miller did make good casting decisions, but they need mocap or nothing.
10)No one who isn't a huge DC fan has ever heard of their other female characters (not counting batgirl and superwoman)
11)Firestorm would be good if only for the tension it would to with MMH. Assuming he isn't the god mode MMH.
12)Oh god no, unless killing the wonder twins is the catalyst that brings them together. Even for a show as cheesy as smallville, they were still horrible.
    13) I dont think we can. IMO this entire stupid reboot is his version of the Ultimates after Xmen came out.
14)There are, but are they cheap enough? I know Reynolds would be lol.
15)IMO if they're doing it, they need to go big. When half your team can destroy the planet in a fight with their equal, you need to leave Earth.

    David Wenham as Aquaman
    Djimon Hansou as Martian Manhunter
Cavill as Supes, unless he turns out to be reaaaally bad lol
Reynolds would probably be eager to make up for GL
Brody would still be a good choice for Flash, plus he's cheap
Jaimie Alexander as Wonder Woman, if they can steal her from Marvel. I'd imagine so since she's never likely to be anything but supporting.
Hammer for Batman just for the hell of it.

Why do they feel there is the need for 'Origin' story lines in these movies? Time and again, they waste 3/4 of the movie explaining how this hero came to be. Why no spend efforts on a decent screenwriter/story and hire some accomplished actors? It's not like all these characters are new/unknown.

I don't think that a JL movie would necessarily be pitched towards current comics readers so we probably would get a more 'classic' lineup who would be recognizable to the general public. So probably no Cyborg. Hawkman and Green Arrow would be more likely additional members.

DC needs to stop trying to put there heroes in modern time. Marvel owns the 21 century. DC needs to take there heroes to the 1930s - 1950s and bring the Justice Society of America to the big screen. They would bring in so much money if they did that. Come on
the spectre alone would be a hit if done right. I can't even start to think of Dr. Fate, Hourman and the Spectre fighting side by side against the Nazis. Hawkman and Sandman beating the crap out of people. And you can add Golden age superman, Batman and Wonderwoman. And you still have GA Flash and Green Lantern. Plus Wildcat. If done right they would bring in way more money than Marvel. But if they want to use a character in a modern day story and make real money then they need to stop playing around and bring Jason Todd to the big screen in a sole movie. And also for god sake why won't they give us Captain Marvel movie. He can be use for the 1940's or today. DC needs to start using the history that made them famous. Because I'm telling you if Marvel brings Namor to the big screen then its over for DC when it comes to movies, if they don't do anything.

Green Lantern is still must read for me, but Justice League is nothing but a train wreck. Jim Lee's costume designs are horrible. The Earth-2 Trinity's costumes are much better than Earth-1's. Why all the same collar on most everyone's costume and that stupid chinstrap for Flash?

The biggest mistake of the DCnU was the exclusion of the Martian Manhunter in favor of Cyborg. Why couldn't there have been 8 members? makes absolutely no sense.

Wayne Agree with you on the New 52 JL. That is one of the worst titles since the 52 reboot. The story is pure trash, Lee's art is underwhelming, and Batman is completely out of place in it. Martian Manhunter and John Stewart would work better than Cyborg and Jordan, as well.

Why is it so hard for Warner Bros/DC to understand?
    Complete "THE TRINITY" first.
Then worry about a JLA flick.

"WONDER WOMAN" should be next on the list. Use Lauren Montgomery's animated Direct-to-DVD as the template. Since(other than Nolan), a lot of those folks at the DC Animation Division are the ONLY ones who seem to know what the HELL to do with DC's roster anyway.

    Hell.
Get them to do live-action films.
It worked for Brad Bird (MI: GHOST PROTOCOL) and Andrew Stanton (regardless of how people diss on "JOHN CARTER").

I've always believed they should do the opposite of Marvel. Start with JL and spin outward. If they're smart, they will pair JL'ers together. You don't have to make everyone iconic. Just make good to great films. It's too early for a Flash/GL film. It's not too early to intertwine others. I'm a huge Marvel fan, while I enjoy all things comic book. WB, open your eyes and get to it.
By the way, this article hit most of my own opinions!

Although this may be good for younger generations, i see this as the begining of a comic book slaughter. Yes, most of the movies have been at least entertaining, (even the not so good, GL for example) I believe hollywood is going to suck the blood out of both DC and Marvel. I will give credit to The Avengers as well as Thor, Iron Man, The I. Hulk, and Captian america. The problem begins with whats next, before avengers 2, all the characters will get another movie, bc hollywood wants to drag this out as long as possible after the initial success. This most likely will have an effect on the actuall quality of the films bc the studio can rely on creative marketing and fanbase anticibation to secure opening day #'s. I can see the avengers being dragged out for at least 10 years if done at the pace the first batch was put out.

Now as far as the Justice Leauge, there is a 99 percent chance it will fail. First and formost because which ever studio puts it out is going to push for what The Avengers did rather than taking the time to develop a unique universe and establish NEW character backrounds. I can already see batman being played by some mildly skilled actor trying to immitate Bale, Superman some emotionless jock-type, flash with some Sean william Scott knock off and a revamped GL. Cyborg will go as a mere supposting charactor and Wonder Woman whichever sex-pot actress is at the time. (meghan fox had what? a 2 yr run at it?)

I will remain optimistic and hope another mind like Nolan gets put in charge but i fear the worst. sorry for the rant!

If DC wants to sell a live action Justice League film, they're going to need to do differently than that. I think more creative license needs to be taken with the team. First, you can't do Aqua-Man. You just can't. No one can take AC seriously. Second, you need 2 women and one of them should be a minority like say Vixen, but write her to be even more feral like a hot female Wolverine. As long as you have Wonder Woman, Flash, Superman, and Batman, you can play around with the rest. Cyborg is a great idea so long as he doesn't look too much like an Iron Man ripoff like Steel would have been. It helps that he's black. Also, GL is awesome but if they want to do a GL, it can't be Hal Jordan. A womanizer always brightens up any group, so why not Guy Gardner?
Oh yeah, there needs to be seven.

How bout instead of the present day, give us the past, ala "Elseworlds" and steampunk chic. JLA in the 1910's or earlier. Do something different and daring. Or if not, at least give us a future setting, with the 'Beyond' style. Cyborg would fit it in there. Anyway, set in the present day I don't see how a JLA movie wouldn't be perceived as an also-ran after the success of the Avengers.

Joel Well I think it is important t remember that DC started it all. We don't look at Marvel as a DC copycat. They are one of the great rivals like pepsi and coke.
Whatever they do it has to be meaty and deep and dark. Wonder Woman has to be tall and powerful and has to make your knees weak. In my opinion I don't want to see anyone remotely similar to Linda Carter. She was hot but she couldn't act. I can't really think of anyone that could play Wonder Woman as she has been created by DC. She is breathtakingly beautiful, has the strength of superman (almost), is intelligent and serious and all other women just stay out of her way no matter what powers they have. Who honestly could do that? Certainly not Linda Carter!!! Not saying that I didn't drool all over myself as a kid watching her but that had nothing to do with Wonder Woman and everything to do with Linda Carter.
I think if I were doing a JL movie I would stick to the animation but go the route of Avatar or something like that only better. I just can't see actors pulling off the JL properly.
