Premiere date: June 24, 2013
This is mighty presumptuous and we can debate all day whether or not CBS' adaptation of the mammoth Stephen King tome is any good, but with 13.5 million live viewers, plus another 3.16 million viewers added in Live+3 figures, "Under the Dome" is the biggest summer hit since... Well... It's been a long time. "Under the Dome" performed well overall and also among young viewers and pretty much proved that with months of promotion and a strong hook, it's possible for a network to get audiences to watch something new and scripted after Memorial Day. FOX will try the same thing next summer with the return of "24" as a limited event series and then with an event series from M. Night Shylaman, trying to demonstrate that big brands work on TV in summer just as easily as they do in the multiplex. Or maybe "Under the Dome" will plummet in its second week and we'll feel silly having led off this slide show with it.
