Tim Burton's "Mary Reilly" with Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton
It's easy to see why Hollywood was so crazy about the novel "Mary Reilly." Watching the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story unfold from the point-of-view of his maid is an interesting way to pull apart a classic and shine a new light on the elements of it. If Tim Burton had directed the film, he had an exciting cast in mind, and it would have felt like a lovely summary of everything he had done before that. Winona Ryder would have captured the fragility of the character in an exciting way, and when I think about what Michael Keaton could have done playing both Jekyll and Hyde, I am genuinely upset by what we got instead.
