Mamie Gummer, 'Emily Owens, MD'
Where You've Seen Her Before: The quickly-canceled ABC medical drama "Off the Map"
Breakout Role: The sweaty, insecure title character, who discovers her new hospital is just like high school, and not in a good way.
Why: If you can get past the fact that Gummer looks, sounds and has the same mannerisms as her mom (Meryl Streep), you'll find she also shares Mom's flare for acting. She easily captures the anxiety of Owens' first day on the job, the nagging fear that she's not as good as her resume and her silent longing for her med-school crush, Will (Justin Hartley). Gummer, who isn't afraid to sport pit stains in the pilot, shows her mom's penchant for setting aside pride in the service of a character, something she had no problem doing as the quirky Dr. Mina on "Off the Map." The good news is that the highly relatable Dr. Owens is more likely to appeal to viewers.
