Andrew Rannells, 'The New Normal'
Where You've Seen Him Before: If you love Broadway, you know the Tony-nominated actor. He originated the role of Elder Price in "The Book of Mormon" and played Link Larkin in "Hairspray." Otherwise, he was Elijah in "Girls."
Breakout Role: Bryan Buckley, who plays a hopeful dad opposite partner David (Justin Bartha, "Failure to Launch")
Why: The Nebraska native takes a big risk in the pilot, wearing Mary Tyler Moore-style clamdiggers AND swapping barbs with the show's adorable kid, Shania (Bebe Wood). Bryan, solipsistic and occasionally prickly, could be distinctly unsympathetic if played by the wrong actor. The good news is that Rannells is not the wrong actor. With a quick smile that smooths Bryan's lack of cuddliness, Rannells manages to find the soft spot between toothless schmaltz and crankiness.
