Kevin Costner: Your Parents' Favorite Movie Star
Let's face facts: there was never, ever a time when Kevin Costner was cool. Mom and Dad, not you, made him one of the biggest stars of the decade, in a string of populist (and frequently awful) blockbusters ranging from Best Picture winner "Dances with Wolves" to "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" to Whitney Houston vehicle "The Bodyguard." They adored him for his laid-back charm -- a quality which belied an aggressive vanilla-ness that allowed him to flourish in a decade that catered in bloated, mediocre prestige films and blemish-free star vehicles.
