Alfred Hitchcock: 'Psycho' (1960)
Hitchock wasn't exactly known for light fare prior to helming the 1960 classic, but "Psycho" was his first legit horror film and a groundbreaker in terms of onscreen depictions of violence and sensuality. The film proved to be such a success that Hitch returned to the genre with his next feature, 1963's "The Birds."
