Is the 2014 Emmy race already over on the Drama side?
Yes. Probably. That was pretty easy, right? We're not even a month past the 2013 Emmys, but you can pretty much give "Breaking Bad" the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy right now. And after a spring season that had several critics running out of superlatives for each passing episode, you can also probably start assigning other Emmys as well. Bryan Cranston for Best Actor? Yeah. Anna Gunn for Supporting Actress? Basically a lock. Rian Johnson for directing on "Ozymandias"? Yeah, probably. Will Dean Norris and Betsy Brandt break in with their first nominations? Very likely. Yes, you can never predict what shows might come in out of left field to at least challenge "Breaking Bad." Maybe Emmy voters will adore "Orange Is The New Black" even more than they liked "House of Cards," for example. But with no new network shows even threatening a hypothetical nomination and the major drama contenders likely to be the same dramas that lost to the inferior 5a season of "Breaking Bad" already? Yeah. This one's in the bag. Maybe Comedy will be more exciting?
