'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'
Original network: The WB (1997-2001)
Moved to: UPN (2001-2003)
How it fared: Before Joss Whedon was King of the Geeks, no one expected much from "Buffy." It was a reboot of a failed feature film and was airing on a new, smaller network. However, critics and devoted fans turned it into a surprise hit. When UPN outbid The WB for the 20th Century Fox-produced series, "Buffy" made the move painlessly. It also spawned The WB's "Angel," in addition to numerous toys, video games, novels and comics.
