Critics' Choice: Martin Scorsese, "The Aviator"

Why: The 2004 Oscar circuit needed a late-breaking "Million Dollar Baby," because for whatever asinine reason, Academy members were desperate for an alternative to Martin Scorsese's bold and brilliant Howard Hughes biopic. He picked up his hardware in a couple of places that year, at least, including the Critics' Choice Movie Awards.
