Best Supporting Actor 2012
Critics' Choice: Philip Seymour Hoffman, "The Master"
Oscar's Choice: Christoph Waltz, "Django Unchained"
Why: The 2012 Best Supporting Actor Oscar could have gone to Robert De Niro but it ended up surprisingly landing in Christoph Waltz's lap for the second time (and more or less the same performance) in three years. Meanwhile, Philip Seymour Hoffman was crushing it opposite Joaquin Phoenix and the duo even won a neat and novel shared Best Actor prize at the Venice Film Festival where it premiered. The BFCA went in the right direction.
