Though the book and resulting film both feature their share of disturbing teen-on-teen violence, director Gary Ross told us that he was only forced to make a few minor nips and tucks to appease the MPAA and get the PG-13 rating needed.

"I think, when I went to the MPAA, I probably changed one or two shots," said Ross. "As you know, if you’ve seen the movie, we really don't back off the violence in any way.  I mean, the Cornucopia melee is like pretty intense and obviously pretty graphic. ...[But the cuts were] like a few frames off one shot or another.  It was nothing very major in any kind of way."
