CBS doesn’t believe in midseason anymore
CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler boldly declared on Wednesday (May 15) that the term "midseason" is dead. This follow's Kevin Reilly's January pronouncement that "pilot season" is dead. Pretty soon, a network executive is just going to cancel Christmas and rename January "Juanuary." Wait. Really? It's funny that CBS would want to banish midseason what with its unprecedented run of overall season victories that would seem to suggest a high level of year-round dominance. However, CBS hasn't had a successful new piece of "midseason" programming in many years and is coming off yet another season in which all of its new midseason dramas and comedies have been cancelled once again. CBS would prefer to point to last season's summer smash "Under the Dome" and this summer's presumptive hit "Extant" and hope that you link 2014-15's non-fall offerings like "Battle Creek" and "The Odd Couple" with them, rather than "Chaos" and "Intelligence" and "NYC 22" and "Friends with Better Lives" and "Bad Teacher" and "Rob!"
