10 Superheroes who really don't need their own movie

Which characters probably won't ever make it to the big screen?

Supergirl

Supergirl

Kal-El's cousin already had one shot at the big screen in the classic 1984 camp-fest "Supergirl" and it was a critical and commercial disaster (it was also the death knell in Fay Dunaway's legitimate movie career) . Films such as "Tomb Raider," "Wanted" and "Underworld" have proven that female-driven action or Sci-Fi films can be monster hits in the 21st Century, but the Maid of Might? Not only is DC Entertainment busy attempting to get Superman off the ground again with "Man of Steel," but Warner Bros. has spent decades trying to figure out how to bring "Wonder Woman" to the big screen. A "Supergirl" movie would only make sense if "Man of Steel" brings in "Avengers" like grosses. In fact, Kara Zor-El will be lucky to appear in a future "Justice League" sequel…(now that's an idea)

This list is ridiculous! You can't say don't make a film about 5 of DC's top 8-10 iconic first tier characters. Yeah obviously don't screw them up and some might be challenging, but come on.

Wonder Woman has to be made and Aquaman could be incredible showing the underwater world... Nothing works better in 3D then underwater footage, look at Avatar. Most its best scenes were inspired by sea-life. Besides that, Aquaman has a supporting cast and world (Atlantis) rivaled in DC only by Batman and Superman, and ask anyone on the street who is Aquaman and most will know. You can't say that about Dr. Strange and you couldn't say that about Ironman 8 years ago.

Yas Unfortunately, this article has it right. I would love to argue for Nick Fury, Wonder Woman, Shazam & Martian Manhunter. But what was said is true. Aquaman is a joke, always has been. Superboy & girl are cute, but that's not movie material. Green Lantern was not good. It was a major disappointment, I grew up with that character. That X-origins movie was also disappointing. Shot in the head with an adamantium bullet that makes Logan lose all his memory is insulting to me as a comic fan & moviegoer.

Please, enough with the Green Lantern film bashing already. I'm sick of hearing people complain about that one. Seriously, it really wasn't bad IMHO.

    1. Mark Millar wrote "The Ultimates", not Brian Michael Bendis.

    2. Superboy is a clone of Superman and a currently unknown human, not another alien race.

    3. Shazam, the artist formerly known as Captain Marvel, hasnt had his new origin completely revealed yet, so we don't know how well it might work for modern audiences.

What's the deal with magneto he does not look like anything close to what he does in the comics, he's not old he has white hair and lots of muscles. Another thing venom in the Spiderman movies is way off base Venom in the comics is like the size of juggernaut with huge muscles, mouth and teeth with dripping green drool and a really long tongue what's the deal with making him look like a pansy. Not cool.

Isidore You have to consider that when they make these movies they are basic them in current years, as they did in the comics. Back then ww2 was still fresh so a kid 8 years old in concentration camp would still be young. Though when modernized, that 8 year old kid isn't so young in 2000 is he? It's a fluke in the modernizing process, it's why remakes get such poor rating often.

Why not do Frank Millar Batman story down the road like the graphic novel when he is old with a cane and set in the 25th century.

I think if a director put a lot of effort into it you could make a memorable movie.

They always go overboard. Spiderman did not need a reboot. And another atempt at superman after only about 7 years? Really? I like the continuation of x men though.

I agree with everything except xmen. The stand alone movies were made to shed light onto characters who neing introverted would not or could not share their past experiences. Wolverine's origins was a great movie in my opinion and shed light onto why he couldnt remember his past and also gave a glimpse of what his past really held.

Also personally i would love to see a movie about shazam.

"Smallville" did not have "more than ten seasons." I am not disrespecting the article; I just thought that I would point out this inaccuracy.

Anna I think they were counting the comic book continuation that was counted as an eleventh season.

It is an opinion piece, but I can agree on some points.

Aqua man would make a graphically amazing movie, but Not much else, 98% of his combat was him ordering fish to strike telepathically, it would get too boring too fast. he would be best served in justice league, drop an enemy in the ocean, cue aqua man and a pod of killer whales.

Starting off with justice league would give a good base for most of the DC characters because face the facts, as history shows, marvel characters are designed to better fit an audiences attention, marvel routinely outsells DC. I have enjoyed most comic book movies as I am a Long time fan but can watch with the directors intent observed and certain acceptable chsnges let go, but it is obvious the fans just don't attach to DC as easily as marvel.

As for the xmen, I won't say the origins aren't good, they are entertaining. But if they ever want a good origins movie, first thing is first, they desperately need a time line, havoc, blob, storm as a little girl, etc. adjustments should be made.

Mike This entire list seems to be an excuse to run down DC Comics. The list is terrible! I'd love to see a good film made of any of the DC characters you flippantly disparage.

Gotta say Aquaman is one of the best comics out there right now. If everyone could get off the aqua-mocking band wagon for a second they might see that he's finally being written as an awsome character. No one seems to mock Namor so much, and he's even more 'laughable'. I give them props for taking the chance and incorperate this "love to mock him" attitude us land dwellers have. If given the same treatment it could be a great and unique movie.

David This article suffers from poor journalism. I forgot. You're a bunch of bloggers. You needs to read volumes upon volumes of comics before you can attempt to make an article like this. Yes. You need to actually read comics to form your opinion. You need to be well versed in comics. Wonder Woman to not have a movie??? She's one of the Trinity of all comicdom. You guys don't know your source material.

If the Wolverine movie goes well, their making a Gambit movie. Gambit needs his own movie. He's Gambit!! Also, the only way I could see a Supergirl movie is if they used the story line of how she sarcrificed herself for the one girl (I'm not overly familiar with Supergirl comics). It would be interesting.

I think apart from the look and finding a woman suitable, Powergirl would struggle for a movie too!

Only1otto I think Aqua Man would be an awesome movie. There is so much that's unknown about the ocean & sea life that could be imagine. They just have to move away from the only thing he can do is talk to fish.
POWER PACK; I never really liked the comics but with Disney owning the characters an animation like ToyStory would make ridiculous box office cash!
I also think a Hawkman:HAWK WORLD would make an excellent movie.
I love SHAZAM!! But he's so similar to Superman, the only way I see this working is showing Black Adam's fall from grace be a heavy part of the movie. Also why there is a need for a new protector& why it's been so long since anyone has been given this power. I think that would work.

See a characters origins is sometimes needed. And it gives light to why a person is who is and why. His past that made his present and future. Saying you can get that from movies like xmen 1,2,3 is insane. Fir the new generation who never read the comics or seen the shows want to see their beginnings to better understand them today. You sir are a twit and an idiot.
