The CW orders 'Backpackers' for summer TV run
The CW has called "Backpackers" up to the major leagues.
Originally developed for The CW's digital studio CW Seed, "Backpackers" has been ordered for a summer TV run with 10 original half-hour episodes.
The first four "Backpackers" half-hours will feature previously released material from CW Seed, while the other six will be wholly original and produced for The CW.
"Backpackers" will then premiere on The CW at a yet-to-be-determined summer time.
“Since launching last year, one of our missions for CW Seed was for it to serve as an incubator for new talent and new ideas," blurbs Rick Haskins, Executive Vice President, Marketing and Digital Programs, The CW. "We're very excited to see 'Backpackers' turn from a short-form digital series into a full-length broadcast television show, and we are continuing to look at CW Seed for other possibilities to transform content and for creative new ways of doing business.'
"Backpackers" focuses on best friends Ryan (Noah Reid) and Brandon (Dillon Casey) traveling around Europe looking for Ryan's missing bride-to-be.
The show's summer run will be paired with CW Seed's "The Real Backpackers," an online-only production in which Annie Unnold travels to the same real locations as the fictional characters. Or something.
