Will Bill Murray's Peter Venkman character be re-cast in 'Ghostbusters 3'?
The seemingly neverending development saga of "Ghostbusters 3" continues.
Last year, when "Ghostbusters" mastermind Dan Aykroyd said that they'd go ahead on the sequel without the participation of key player Bill Murray, it turns out that he meant that they would indeed make the movie without Murray, but not without Murray's Peter Venkman character.
Responding to rumors that Murray returned a script with the note "No one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts," Aykroyd told Empire, "Bill Murray is not capable of such behavior. This is simply something that would not be in his nature. We communicate frequently and his position on the involvement in 'Ghostbusters 3' has been made clear and I respect that."
He reportedly went on to hint that Venkman may appear again, only played by a different actor. Gulp...those are some mighty big shoes to fill.
Oddly enough, he seems more adamant about getting the approval of supporting player Rick Moranis."If we can get the script to 'Ghostbusters 3' right, then it would definitely have Moranis as a major component. None of us would want to do the movie without having him as a participant."
As for where they are in development, no much ground seems to have been gained. "The script must be perfect," Aykroyd explained. "We cannot release a film that is any less than that. We have more work to do."
If this thing ever gets made, will fans accept a "perfect" "Ghostbuster 3" with a re-cast Venkman?
