'Basterd' to spar with 'The Green Hornet'
After receiving accolades for his role in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds," German actor Christoph Waltz is taking advantage of his newfound fame. Variety reports Waltz has stepped in for Nicolas Cage to play the villain in Michel Gondry's "The Green Hornet."
Waltz, who is a frontrunner for a best supporting Oscar nomination for his work in "Basterds," will play Chudnofsky, an LA crime boss whose goal is to unite all the gangs in the city into one supermafia.
The long in the works project finds Seth Rogen as the masked hero, Jay Chou as his sidekick Kato and Cameron Diaz on board as the love interest.
Production will begin this fall in anticipation of a Dec. 17, 2010 release.
