Roland Emmerich says Will Smith might return for 'Independence Day 2' after all
Because what would an "Independence Day" sequel be like without Will Smith as sassy Air Force Captain Steven Hiller?
Despite previous statements to the contrary, director Emmerich is now saying that Smith is a possibility for the long-delayed "ID4" follow-up slated for 2015 or 2016.
"I sometimes say no, Will Smith will be not in it because he didn't want to do it at first. Now we have a meeting planned, we want to talk about it again," told Digital Spy. "Anything can happen."
Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman -- who co-starred with Smith in the 1996 original -- are already signed to return.
IN the interview, Emmerich also explains that he recently approached MGM about developing a trilogy reboot of his 1994 hit "Stargate."
