Will Ryan Gosling star in the new 'Star Wars'?
The rumors surrounding 2015's "Star Wars: Episode VII" are heating up.
First and foremost on fans' minds is the question of who will be cast in the trilogy, which takes place after 1983's "Return of the Jedi." The latest buzz has two big, and rather unexpected, names rumored to be circling the project.
Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron are both being considered for major roles in the Disney film, according to Latino Review.
While there's no indication of which part Efron is allegedly being considered to play, the same source noted that Gosling would be playing the adult son of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). Original trilogy stars Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford are reportedly returning to the "Star Wars" universe for the film.
Interestingly, both Efron and Gosling got their start with Disney Channel projects, but have had significantly divergent career paths since their child actor days.
The report also claims that Leonardo DiCaprio earlier turned down a role in the film.
Meanwhile, Lucasfilm responded to the buzz that director J.J. Abrams was exiting the project in order to focus on "Star Trek 3." "There is no truth to the rumor," a Lucasfilm told IGN. "JJ is having a great time working on the script and is looking forward to going into production next year."
There will likely be more official news to be revealed at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration in Germany later this month.
