ReelzChannel rescues 'The Kennedys'
ReelzChannel has acquired broadcast rights to History Channel's semi-controversial cast-off "The Kennedys," forcing dozens of TV fans to check to see if they actually have ReelzChannel.
The movie event, which features Greg Kinnear as John F. Kennedy, Katie Holmes as Jackie Kennedy, Barry Pepper as Robert Kennedy and Tom Wilkinson as Joseph Kennedy, will begin on Sunday, April 3.
Directed by Jon Cassar and created by Stephen Kronish and Joel Surnow, "The Kennedys" was jettisoned by History Channel last month amidst concerns that the 8-part series was a poor fit for the cable network's brand.
At Reelz Channel, which has no particular brand, there were no such concerns.
"We believe in the business we are committed to – movies, the celebrities making them and how and why they influence our cultural universe. If that means defending the right for well told and important stories to be seen -- then so be it -- we can do that," stated ReelzChannel CEO Stan E. Hubbard. "We’re not beholden to anyone – we are here for the viewers and we are here for the movie and artistic community as well. As an independent, we have the freedom few networks enjoy."
