'Riddick's' Vin Diesel initiating new sci-fi franchise with 'Soldiers of the Sun'
With "Riddick" soon hitting theaters and "Fast and Furious 7" planned for next summer, you'd think Vin Diesel would be tired of franchise films, but that's apparently not the case.
The actor is planning on starring in and producing the sic-fi film "Soldiers of the Sun," with an eye for expanding it into a new franchise.
"Sun" takes place in the post-apocalyptic Mexico of the future, where a team of soldiers search for a lost city of gold while battling aliens called Orcs.
Universal has picked up the spec script by Arash Amel ("Grace of Monaco"), and it will be produced by Diesel and his producing partner Samantha Vincent along with Lorenzo di Bonaventura ("Transformers"), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In addition to "Riddick" and "FF7," Diesel is also alleged to be providing the voice of Groot in Marvel's 2014 sci-fi-superhero epic "Guardians of the Galaxy."
