'Man of Steel' earns PG-13 rating

Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman reboot "Man of Steel" may look a shade darker that previous films featuring the hero, but (as expected) it won't be dark enough to earn an R rating.

"Steel," starring Henry Cavill as the legendary superhero, has been granted a PG-13 by the MPPA for "intense sequences of sci-fi violence, action and destruction, and for some language," according to Ropeofsilicon

The film, directed by Snyder ("Watchmen") and produced by Christopher Nolan (the "Dark Knight" films), likely won't be as dark as their previous superhero films, but appears to be darker than 2006's divisive "Superman Returns."

It also stars Michael Shannon, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Russell Crowe and Laurence Fishburne.

"Man of Steel" opens in 3D, IMAX 3D and regular old 2D on June 13.
