Will Amy Adams replace Anne Hathaway in 'Rock of Ages'?
Anne Hathaway's loss may be Amy Adams' gain - or will it?
Like he did with "Hairspray," director Adam Shankman has been doing everything possible to line up an all-star cast for his big screen incarnation of the Broadway musical "Rock of Ages." So far, Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige and, um, Julianne Hough are on board. The question has remained, however, who will play the uptight reporter that falls for Cruise's over the hill rocker Stacee Jaxx? Anne Hathaway was initially the frontrunner for the part, but her shooting schedule for "The Dark Knight Rises" has nixed that possibility. Now, Deadline reports Shankman is wooing triple Oscar nominee Amy Adams for the role.
Adams is no stranger to musicals having sung her way through "Enchanted," but she's also lending her voice to a number of songs in the upcoming "The Muppet Movie." Could "Ages" just be too much song and dance in a short period of time for the "Fighter" star? Stay tuned.
