Which side will the new 'Avengers 2' characters be on?
Among the many new characters in 2015's "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" are The Vision (Paul Bettany, who voiced Jarvis in earlier Marvel films) and super powered twins Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen).
In comics lore, all three have complicated relationships with the heroes, oscillating between the sides of "good" and "evil."
[Possible spoilers ahead]
"Avengers" writer-director Joss Whedon noted that the new trio's allegiance will lie with the title villain Ultron, a rogue A.I. program originally created by Tony Stark.
“They’re on Team Ultron," he revealed to EW, "which makes things really hard for the Avengers because all of sudden they’re dealing with powers that they’re not used to."
And things sound like they'll be very hard indeed for Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
"With the [first film], everybody pretty much had the power of being able to punch somebody," Whedon joked. “And now we have a woman who can get inside your head and move objects, and a boy that can move faster than anything, and a robot who can self-replicate and is out of his mind. So all of sudden, it’s a darker, weirder, tougher world that they’re living in.”
Whedon further explained that the fact that Bettany is going from playing the friendly computer-butler Jarvis to the Vision is "not coincidence." He then added, "And I’m not going to tell you any more about The Vision.”
