Edgar Wright says Marvel's ‘Ant-Man’ will 'surprise' people
Although Marvel's lesser-known superhero "Ant-Man" will be facing box office titans like "Man of Steel 2" and "The Avengers 2" in 2015, director Edgar Wright ("Shaun of the Dead," "The World's End") thinks the pint-sized superhero will rise to the challenge.
"I want to make him into a badass," Wright told ET. "No, I always liked that comic and I always thought it would be an interesting thing to see in live-action. That’s why I [showed] that Comic-Con test that we did for Marvel, to show this fight scene like a proof of content, like this is what the action is going to look like."
Although Ant-Man has been a regular fixture in the Marvel universe for decades, Wright thinks that fans can expect something different from "The Avengers" and the Marvel solo films so far.
"I think people will be surprised by what kind of movie it is," he explained, "and so in that respect it’s something that I know is going to stand out because it’s got a very different story and is a very different movie."
"Ant-Man" is scheduled to open July 31, 2015.
