Bryan Singer will produce, not direct 'X-Men: First Class'
Last weekend, HitFix exclusively reported that 20th Century Fox was looking for new directors of "X-Men: First Class" after supposedly locking original "X-Men" director Bryan Singer to return to the franchise. HitFix reported that Singer was locked in to direct "Jack the Giant Killer" for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures.
On Friday, Deadline reported that Singer was now producing instead of directing the project because of "Giant Killer." It appears that Fox loved the script by Singer scribe Jamie Moss so much they couldn't wait for the filmmaker to finish his first commitment. Now, after already getting rejected by their first few choices, Fox is looking to find a director quickly in order to shoot sometime later this year. The studio hopes to possibly create a new trilogy centered on the early days of the "X-Men." Who will spearhead that story remains to be seen , but it won't be Singer.
