'Twilight's' Robert Pattinson to go the action route in 'The Rover'
"Twilight" fans will have a number of new Robert Pattinson films to look forward to once Stephenie Meyers' romantic vampire franchise wraps up in November.
First, it was recently reported that Pattinson will star in "Mission: Blacklist," about the capture of Saddam Hussein. Now, the Brit hunk has signed on to star opposite Guy Pearce ("Prometheus") in David Michod’s "The Rover."
In a synopsis that brings to mind George Miller's epic "Mad Max" films, "The Rover" takes place in the Australian Outback in the desolate near future, where a desperate man (Pearce) obsessively pursues a group of thugs who stole his car. According to Deadline, Pattinson will play Reynolds, the younger brother of one of the thieves, who gets left behind after the gang has a run-in with the cops.
Between these two recent announcements and his role in David Cronenberg's upcoming "Cosmopolis," it looks like the erstwhile RPatz is trying pretty hard to shed the pretty boy image he picked up from the "Twilight" series. Can he pull off playing a bad-ass?
Meanwhile, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II" opens November 16.
