'Pinocchio' may reunite 'Tropic Thunder's' Robert Downey Jr. and Ben Stiller
"Tropic Thunder" principals Robert Downey Jr. and Ben Stiller may be reuniting for a high-profile project, and that's no lie.
During a press junket interview for "Iron Man 3," Downey Jr. revealed that his dream director for the planned update of "Pinocchio" was Stiller, who directed him to an Oscar nomination in 2008's "Tropic Thunder."
Previously, Tim Burton was reported to be close to signing on for "Pinocchio," but he ultimately passed, leaving star-producer Downey and Warner Bros. on the lookout for a new name.
According to Deadline, Downey and Stiller discussed the idea at CinemaCon, after Stiller unveiled a teaser reel for his upcoming "The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty." Now, Stiller is in talks with the studio to direct the fairy tale film, in which Downey would play Geppetto. No one else has been cast as of yet.
Meanwhile, a separate, animated version of the classic tale is in development, teaming Guillermo del Toro and "Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe.
