Read Tom Hiddleston's earnest thank you note to Joss Whedon for 'Avengers' role
Loki may be a duplicitous trickster, but Tom Hiddleston seems to be as charming and polite as they come.
Most fans were more than happy with the actor's performance as Loki in Joss Whedon's "The Avengers," but it turns out that Hiddleston himself was just as excited about -- and thankful for -- the role.
A new Whedon biography by Amy Pascale, cryptically titled "Joss Whedon: The Biography," includes an email Hiddleston sent to the writer-director before the Marvel film's shoot.
"Thank you for writing me my Hans Gruber," it reads. "But a Hans Gruber with super-magic powers. As played by James Mason ... It's high operatic villainy alongside detached throwaway tongue-in-cheek; plus the 'real menace' and his closely guarded suitcase of pain. It's grand and epic and majestic and poetic and lyrical and wicked and rich and badass and might possibly be the most gloriously fun part I've ever stared down the barrel of playing. It is just so juicy."
On a related note, just think of how different "Die Hard" would have been if Hans Gruber had wielded "super-magic powers."
The full email (and Whedon's terse but heartfelt response, can be read in Business Insider (via JoBlo).
