'Thor' starts shooting this January
It's hard to believe, but after years of development Marvel Studios big screen adaptation of "Thor" is finally scheduled to being shooting in sunny Hollywood.
In the Marvel Comics universe, the Norse God of Thunder spends a good deal of his time in mythical Asgard which is a wondrous land that looks appropriately like Scandinavia and in big cities like Chicago (Stan Lee had to put one hero there). According to Production Weekly, "Thor" will begin filming in Los Angeles in mid-January but then move to New Mexico from March until late-April. Recent big studio flicks to shoot in New Mexico include "Terminator: Salvation," Simon Pegg's "Paul" and "The Men Who Stare at Goats." Gotta love those tax incentives...
Directed by Kenneth Branagh, "Thor" stars Chris Hemsworth in the title role with Tom Hiddleston as his evil step-bother Loki, Anthony Hopkins as their father and ruler of Asgard, Odin as well as Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore Stellan Skarsgard and, of course, Samuel L. Jackson appears as Nick Fury.
"Thor" will hit theaters on May 20, 2011.
