Monica Bellucci to romance Nic Cage
Famed Italian actress Monica Bellucci hasn't had much success with American features besides "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions," but now she's turning to Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer to try and break through.
Variety reports Bellucci has joined the cast of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" where she'll play Veronica, the long-lost love of Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage). The action flick centers around a modern-day wizard who recruits a young protege (Jay Baruchel) to fight the forces of darkness in, of course, Manhattan.
Bellucci's latest film, "Ne te retourne pas" ("Don't Look Back") premieres this weekend at the Cannes Film Festival. She'll also appear in Rebecca Miller's "The Private Lives of Pipa Lee."
The John Turteltaub directed "Sorcerer's Apprentice" is currently shooting in New York and is scheduled for release on July 16, 2010.
