St. Vincent talks new album, releases new song ‘Digital Witness'
St. Vincent has released the second single, “Digital Witness,” off her new self-titled album (out Feb. 25). Listen here.
The woman behind St. Vincent, Annie Clark, recently talked to NPR about how her new songs were inspired by some bizarre real-life events, including an Ambien-induced hallucination and a nude encounter with a rattlesnake in the desert.
Clark said she wrote the album in the three months following last year’s tour for her album “Strange Mercy” and her David Byrne collaboration “Love This Giant": “I had a little window of time, October to December, and I thought I was going to take that off and just learn how to make soup or whatever — I mean, just be a person. But I did not do that. I got home and I started writing this record about 36 hours after I finished a year of touring.” Fans of “Love This Giant” may hear its influence in Clark’s new sound, which is decidedly more upbeat, jazzy and funky than her past efforts.
