'Homeland' sets freshman ratings record for Showtime

Viewers may have loved the first season finale of "Homeland," or they may have hated it, but the polarizing end to the acclaimed season set new ratings records for Showtime.

Sunday night's "Homeland" finale drew 1.71 million viewers in its 10 p.m. first airing, making it the highest-rated finale for any freshman series in Showtime history.

The finale capped off a first season that saw "Homeland" consistently build from its 1.08 million premiere audience to become Showtime's highest rated freshman series ever.

Meanwhile, the sixth season finale of "Dexter" drew 2.23 million viewers, which ranks as Showtime's most watched telecast of 2011.
