'Homeland' doubles up with Director Guild nominations
"Homeland" received two Directors Guild Award nominations this week, the only show to double-dip in the guild's list of annual honors.
On the drama side, Michael Cuesta's "The Choice" episode and Lesli Linka Glatter's "Q&A" episode will represent for "Homeland." They'll go up against installments of "Breaking Bad" (Rian Johnson's "Fifty-One") and "Mad Men" (Jennifer Getzinger's "A Little Kiss") and Greg Mottola's "We Just Decided To" episode of "Newsroom."
"Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston is up for his first DGA award for his directing of the "Election Day" episode of "Modern Family." He's up against director-stars Louis C.K. (for the "New Year's Eve" episode of "Louie") and Lena Dunham (for the "Girls" pilot), as well as "The Big Bang Theory" veteran Mark Cendrowski (for the "The Date Night Variable" episode) and eight-time nominee Beth McCarthy-Miller for the "30 Rock" live episode.
Predictably, HBO leads the Movies for Television and Mini-Series category, with nominations for Philip Kaufman ("Hemingway & Gellhorn") and Jay Roach ("Game Change"). They're up against Kevin Reynolds ("Hatfields & McCoys"), Greg Berlanti ("Political Animals") and Michael Rymer ("American Horror Story: Asylum," the "Dark Cousin" episode).
The DGA Awards will be presented on Saturday, February 2.
