Vincent D'Onofrio returns for final 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent' season
USA announced this week that "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" will return for its 10th and final season in 2011.
Making the eight-episode closing season extra-special is the return of Vincent D'Onofrio, whose Detective Robert Goren was the focus of the show's first eight seasons.
In addition, as part of the same release, Universal Cable Productions announced a pilot commitment to a new pilot from Dick Wolf's Wolf Films.
Of course, even as the USA release calls this "the tenth and final season" for "CI," both quotes in the release backtrack.
"We have been the fortunate caretakers of this legendary series, and we plan to give it the world-class farewell it so richly deserves. Dick and his team promise to create a major event for television with incredible surprises," states USA President of Original Programming Jeff Wachtel. "The plan is for this to be the series finale, but with a Dick Wolf franchise, one really never knows until it’s over."
Wolf adds to the coy double-talk by stating, "I want to thank Bonnie and Jeff for bringing 'Criminal Intent' back for a tenth season. Only time will tell if this is a fond farewell or a renaissance for Detective Robert Goren but everyone both here and in New York is ecstatic about going back to work on a show. that’s a passion for all of us. Signed, Brett Favre."
