Is Benedict Cumberbatch playing Khan in 'Star Trek Into Darkness' after all?

For months now, fans have been going back and forth on whether or not "Star Trek Into Darkness" baddie Benedict Cumberbatch is playing the vengeful villain Khan, last seen portrayed by Ricardo Montalban in 1982's "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan."

Cumberbatch and director J.J. Abrams have both denied it, but Abrams has always tended to obfuscate the facts about his films before they hit theaters.

The latest indication that Cumberbatch is indeed playing Khan is a potentially tell-tale photo caption on EW.com  (as pointed out by CBM). It reads, "Voyage into the new Star Trek with Kirk and Khan."

There's not much to go on, but does it mean that Khan will be bringing the wrath to 'Into Darkness"? Or is it just an editorial mistake?

We may not know for sure until the film opens.

"Star Trek Into Darkness" also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Alice Eve, John Cho, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and Bruce Greenwood.

It opens May 17.
