NBC acquires 'Siberia' to battle 'Under the Dome'
NBC has acquired the high concept drama "Siberia" to go head-to-head this summer with CBS' heavily promoted "Under The Dome."
The drama, picked up from Sierra/Engine Television and producer Michael Ohoven’s Infinity Films, is a scripted series about a reality show dropping 16 contestants in the Tunguska territory of Siberia, site of the famous 1908 meteor hit. As soon as the contestants land, one of them is seriously injured and mysterious things start happening.
"The concept of survival, when mysterious elements are at play, makes for a compelling show," blurbs Jeff Bader, President, Program Planning, Strategy and Research for NBC Entertainment. "We believe a scripted series that offers an insightful behind-the-scenes view of how a reality concept comes together — especially when things don’t go according to plan — will connect with our audience in a very satisfying way."
Matthew Arnold created the series, which will premiere on Monday, July 1 in the 10 p.m.
