LL Cool J promotes 'NCIS: LA' with a lame song

Given that it's a spinoff from one of TV's most successful dramas, settled into a comfy time slot and buttressed by an all-star cast, CBS' "NCIS: LA" probably has all of the promotion it needs. Into this embarrassment of riches, add "No Crew Is Superior," a tie-in single from series star LL Cool J.

Released on Friday (Sept. 11), "No Crew Is Superior" is Ladies Love's first new recording since the 2008 album "Exit 13."

"Nothing succeeds like excess," James Todd Smith observes during the over-produced track.

"I ain't no Shakespeare and I'm far from a poet/I don't wanna preserve the status quo, I wanna overthrow it," he points out later. The first part would be selling Young LL short, but it's sadly apt now, as he's just using his gifts as a marketing tool.

"There is no escaping NCIS," he even barks.

The best part of the song comes at the end, when he arbitrarily quotes our favorite line from "Rocky 3" -- "What's my prediction for the fight? PAIN!"

The single is available for download on iTunes, but mostly, it made us grateful that Ice T hasn't recorded an "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" tie-in.
