The 'Transporter' series to be rebooted for new big screen trilogy
"The Transporter" is ready for a tune-up.
Luc Besson's EuropaCorp has greenlit the first film in a propsed trilogy based on the recent film series starring Jason Statham as amoral expert driver Frank Martin.
Although tentatively titled "Transporter 4," the film won't star Statham, and will instead focus on the origins of the lead character, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Transporter 4" will be co-produced with the Shanghai-based Fundamental Films, giving it a leg-up at the increasingly important Chinese market.
The first three "Transporter" films raced to a combined global gross of approximately $250 million.
This is, of course, is all separate from the European TV series "The Transporter" which is headed to TNT this fall. It stars Chris Vance as Martin.
