Media overreacts to Letterman beating Conan and vice versa
It was a tumultuous week for the new host of "The Tonight Show."
On Tuesday, David Letterman, with guest Julia Roberts, beat Conan O'Brien for the first time, at least in overall ratings. This prompted maniacally over-the-top reactions like Nikki Finke declaring this "[T]he nightmare scenario for GE/NBC Universal."
Oh no! Right?
Then on Wednesday night, Conan moved back ahead of Letterman overall and by Thursday, NBC was boasting that Conan's advantage over Letterman in the key 18-49 demographic was the biggest "Tonight Show" over "Late Show" advatange since 1992.
Oh yay! Right?
Stay tuned for more alarmist responses to "The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien." That's much easier than actually waiting for a couple months and then analyzing a full body of results.
