Camilla Belle returns to serious drama with 'After the Wedding'
Does anyone remember that Camilla Belle came to prominence while starring opposite Daniel Day-Lewis in Rebecca Miller's acclaimed drama "The Ballad of Jack and Rose"? Of course not, because Belle followed that picture with turds like "The Chumbscrubber," "When a Stranger Calls," "10,000 BC" and "Push." Now, Variety reports Belle is set to star in The Halcyon Company's English-language remake of Danish helmer Susanna Bier's "After the Wedding."
The picture will be directed by Michael Canton-Jones and joining Belle is two-time Academy Award nominee Tom Wilkinson. "Wedding" will follow an American social worker who runs a Mumbai orphanage and receives an unexpected multimillion-dollar donation from a Western businessman.
Belle is definitely taking her chances with this one though . Canton-Jones last directed the horrid "Basic Instinct 2" and has middling pictures such as "City by the Sea," "The Jackal" and "Rob Roy" on his resume.
"Wedding" is expected to go into production in the fall.
