Jesse Eisenberg will create his own new Lex Luthor in 'Man of Steel 2'
Jesse Eisenberg is creating an all-new Lex Luthor for Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel 2," history be damned.
The "Social Network" star says he won't try to live up to any previous big screen or comic book incarnations of Superman's most notorious villain.
"It'll definitely be played as a different person, but I don't know really how different...I don't know the history as well as the people making the movie, so I guess it's up to them to figure out how much they want to separate it from previous incarnations," the actor told IGN while making the press rounds for his new indie "The Double."
"But I will treat it like it's its own role," he added. "There's no way to play the history of the character played by other people, unless you do some kind of wink, but that doesn't seem like a responsible way to act. So I will just do it as though it's a character, in the same way you do a movie like 'The Double,' which is a smaller movie -- but you just kind of treat it like a character, and that's probably the best course of action, I think."
As for his hair situation in the film, Eisenberg said he wasn't allowed to say if this Lex Luthor will be bald or not.
Luthor has been played previously by Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey on the big screen, with Michael Rosenbaum playing a younger version of the character on the CW's "Smallville."
