Kevin Costner planning 'Explorers Guild' franchise
Kevin Costner has been on the comeback trail of late, first starring in History's acclaimed "Hatfields &
McCoys" (pictured), and soon be appearing in the new "Jack Ryan" film, and as Pa Kent in the upcoming Superman movie "The Man of Steel."
Now, the actor-director who won an Oscar for "Dances With Wolves" in 1991, is set on guiding a new screen franchise in "The Explorer's Guild."
According to Deadline, Costner has struck a deal with Atria Books in launching a serialized novel series with the first book, "The Explorers Guild, Volume One: A Passage To Shambhala," to be published in 2014. It will be written by Jon Baird and illustrated by Rick Ross.
Costner is planning a multimedia tie-in to the series, including at least one feature film. He's looking to produce and possibly star in the film.
In the story, the elite members of the The Explorers Guild investigate remote parts of the Earth, on a continuing quest to uncover the secrets of the mysterious unknown. Needless to say, it's kid-friendly and lends itself to various interpretations.
