Rumor: Dwayne Johnson to battle Schwarzenegger in 'Terminator 5'?
Is Dwayne Johnson coming to the rescue of yet another troubled franchise?
After helping resurrect the "Fast & Furious" films and reigniting the "G.I. Joe" series, the former wrestler known as The Rock may be bringing some new muscle to the "Terminator" franchise.
"Terminator 5" has been brewing for quite some time, with original star Arnold Schwarzenegger rejoining the series after sitting out "Terminator: Salvation," but will Johnson be added to the cast to bring some more muscle to the long-runing series?
This is all very unsubstantiated, but word has it that "T5" production company Annapurna Films is creating a version of the script with Johnson in mind to co-star, according to the WWE Examiner.
The report goes on to state that "T5" may actually be a prequel set in the 1940s or '50s, where Sarah Connor's parents are targeted by futuristic terminators. Although Schwarzenegger himself just proclaimed that he'll again play a cybernetic organism, this version would allegedly cast him as a human protector who inadvertently inspires the machines to develop a terminator in his likeness.
If previous "Terminator" films have taught us anything, it's that the future's not set in stone, so don't be surprised if none of these rumors come to pass.
Meanwhile, Johnson will soon be seen flexing his muscles in Brett Ratner's "Hercules," and alongside Liam Hemsworth and Emma Roberts in "Empire State."
