Is Sarah Gadon the new Mary Jane for 'Amazing Spider-Man 3'?
Uh-oh. It looks like there's some relationship trouble between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson.
It was earlier reported that Shailene Woodley wouldn't be appearing as Peter Parker's future love interest Mary Jane Watson in "Amazing Spider-Man 2" after all, with director Marc Webb stating that they're saving the character's debut for the recently announced third film in the series.
Now however, rumors are circulating that Woodley ("The Descendants," the upcoming "Divergent") won't be appearing as Mary Jane at all. Instead, "Cosmopolis" star Sarah Gadon is reportedly replacing her for the role "Amazing Spider-Man 3."
An Entertainment Tonight tweet said, "Huge news for @sarahgadon - she just confirmed to us that she is joining The Amazing Spider-Man franchise"
Nothing has been officially announced, but it might help explain why the Mary Jane character was suddenly dropped from the second film as it nears completion on production.
In other Spidey news, rising star Felicity Jones ("Like Crazy") may have revealed which mystery character she'll portray in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." When Flicks and the City surprised her by asking if she was excited to be playing Felicia Hardy (AKA Black Cat), Jones haltingly answered, "Um, well, uh, possibly. I don’t know. Yeah, if that happens, that would be wonderful."
In addition to returning stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, the sequel also stars Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as Rhino and Chris Cooper and Dane DeHaane as Norman and Harry Osborn.
"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" opens May 2, 2014.
