Pixar loses 'Leaf Men' to Fox

Animation powerhouse Pixar thought they had a deal to bring "Ice Age" helmer Chris Wedge into the fold, but 20th Century Fox said no dice.

For the past few years Wedge has been developing an animated adaptation of the William Joyce illustrated children's book "The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs."  At some point, Fox cooled on the project and Wedge brought it to his old buddy John Lasseter at Pixar as the two had previously worked together years ago on the original "Tron."  Just when Wedge, Pixar and Disney (Pixar's parent company) thought they had an agreement to set the project up at the Mouse House, Fox changed their mind and greenlit the film making sure they didn't loose their billion dollar filmmaker to their Northern California rivals.

"Leaf Men" follows a troop of bugs that try to save a garden from an evil spider queen and look to the mythical Leaf Men to save them.

No word yet on when "Leaf Men" will hit screens.
