Is Ryan Seacrest facing an "American Idol" pay cut? Or is "American Idol" featuring life without Ryan Seacrest?
We may be close to finding out.
According to
The Hollywood Reporter, Seacrest's current 3-year/$45 million contract with TV's most popular show runs out after the upcoming 11th season.
The trade's sources say that "Idol" is unlikely to renew Seacrest at the same high price, especially after remaining successful last year after the departure of Simon Cowell. That would raise the two possibilities mentioned above. Either Seacrest would have to sign a cheaper (but sure to be hefty) new deal, or "Idol" might have to look for a new host for the first time since it launched.
It was only a couple weeks ago that Seacrest was being mentioned as a possible candidate to take over on NBC's "Today," a rumor which has yet to either materialize or be quashed.
