Fans sign petition to nix Nickelback performance from Thanksgiving Day NFL game

For some families, watching the Detroit Lions game every Thanksgiving day has become a holiday tradition. For several thousand NFL fans, they're none too excited to have Nickelback as part of that tradition.

The polarizing Canadian rock band is set to play the halftime show of the Detroit Lions v. Green Bay Packers game in Motor City on Nov. 24. More than 30,000 signatures have been collected on a petition, posted on Change.org, to have the Lions change their mind.

"This game is nationally televised, do we really want the rest of the US to associate Detroit with Nickelback? Detroit is home to so many great musicians and they chose Nickelback?!?!?!" read the description. "The Lions ought to think about their fans before choosing such an awful band to play at halftime."

No word from Detroit, but it's unlikely that such a decision can even be reversed.

Nickelback's new album "Here and Now" is due Nov. 21.
