Penelope Cruz circling Ridley Scott's all-star thriller 'The Counselor'
Director Ridley Scott seems bent on putting together the best cast of the year for his upcoming thriller "The Counselor."
Michael Fassbender (also starring in Scott's upcoming "Prometheus") has officially signed on, while Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Javier Bardem are all in various stages of negotiations to co-star. Previously, Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper and Natalie Portman were rumored to be circling the film as well. Now, Scott is looking to add yet another A-lister to the mix.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Penelope Cruz is in talks to play the role of Fassbender's girlfriend in the story about a successful lawyer who attempts to dip his toes into the world of drug trafficking but ends up in way over his head.
It's based on the first spec script by acclaimed author Cormac McCarthy, who penned "The Road," "Blood Meridian" and "No Country For Old Men."
"Counselor" would be the first film Cruz and Bardem have made together since Woody Allen's 2008 "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," for which Cruz won an Oscar.
