The Beatles are the Apple of iTunes' eye
It’s been almost two months since the Beatles’ music became available on iTunes. In that short amount of time they hit a milestone this week: digital singles sales hit 5 million, while album sales surpassed 1 million copies.
Of the more than dozen titles available, “Abbey Road” is the top album seller and “Here Comes the Sun” is the most downloaded track, according to iTunes and the Beatles’ label, EMI.
The stats are worldwide. Billboard breaks it down for the U.S., where “Let It Be” is the top-selling digital track, followed by “Here Comes the Sun.” Of the 5 million downloads globally, 3.6 million come from the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
In the U.S., “Abbey Road” has sold close to 40,000 copies, followed by “The White Album” at 28,000 copies.
